Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the OPA SI PASS

The most important answers about the Siena Cathedral combi-ticket — from inclusions to prices to on-site redemption. Organised by topic so you can find the answer quickly.

Basics of OPA SI PASS

What is the OPA SI PASS?

The OPA SI PASS is the official combined ticket issued by the Opera della Metropolitana di Siena. A single ticket grants access to seven sites within the monumental complex of Siena Cathedral.

Which sites are included in OPA SI PASS?

The OPA SI PASS comprises seven sites plus a digital audio guide:

  • Siena Cathedral (Duomo di Siena)
  • Piccolomini Library with the frescoes by Pinturicchio
  • Crypt with medieval frescoes from the 13th century
  • The Baptistery of San Giovanni with the Baptistery font by Donatello, Ghiberti and Jacopo della Quercia
  • Museum of the Works with Duccio di Buoninsegna's Maestà
  • Facciatone — Viewing platform on the unfinished facade of the New Cathedral
  • Oratorio San Bernardino with the Diocesan Museum
How long is the OPA SI PASS valid for?

The OPA SI PASS is valid for three consecutive days from the date of purchase. Each of the seven sites may be visited exactly once — you are free to choose how to spread your visits over the three days.

Can I visit every site multiple times?

No. Within the three-day validity period, each of the seven sites can be visited exactly once. This also applies to the cathedral itself. Anyone wishing to spend longer at one location should plan for this during their first visit.

Is the "Porta del Cielo" (Heaven's Gate) included?

No, access to the cathedral roof is not included in the OPA SI PASS ticket. The Porta del Cielo requires a separate ticket (around €21 for adults) and a separate booking. Both can be arranged directly at the ticket office.

Prices and tickets

How much does the OPA SI PASS cost?

Prices on GetYourGuide are updated daily:

  • Adults 18,20 €
  • Children (7 to 11 years): 5,70 €
  • Toddlers (up to 6 years): 2,30 €

In the weeks when the marble floor is fully visible (see below), the price may be slightly higher seasonally.

Are there any discounts?

Get free admission:

  • Children up to 6 years old (via GYG with a symbolic minimum price)
  • Residents and those born in Siena
  • People with disabilities and their accompanying person
  • Accredited journalists
  • Students of the University of Siena and the Università per Stranieri
  • Parish groups of the Archdiocese of Siena with letter from the parish priest

These special regulations apply at the official ticket office. When booking online via GetYourGuide, there are adult, child, and infant fares.

Why does the online ticket cost slightly more than the on-site price?

Online bookings include a small service fee from the intermediary, GetYourGuide. In return, availability on your desired day is guaranteed, cancellations up to 24 hours in advance are free, and payment is processed securely. Those who queue up on-site must expect that, especially during peak season, their desired time slot may no longer be available.

Booking and Cancellation

How do I book the OPA SI PASS online?

The booking is made through the product page on GetYourGuide. Select the date, specify the number of tickets, enter your personal details, and pay. You'll receive the confirmation email with the voucher immediately afterwards.

What payment methods are accepted?

GetYourGuide accepts credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, Klarna, as well as regional payment methods and Apple Pay. The specific methods shown depend on the country and device.

How does cancellation work?

Bookings made via GetYourGuide can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before the booked date — with a full refund. You can cancel via your GetYourGuide account or via the link in the confirmation email. No refunds are available within the last 24 hours.

Can I buy the OPA SI PASS directly at the ticket office?

Yes, the OPA SI PASS ticket is available at the official ticket office (Piazza Duomo 7 or the Dear Guests Visitor Centre, Via di Città 48). Queues often form at the ticket office, particularly during the peak season, and availability cannot be guaranteed.

On-site and voucher redemption

Where and when do I redeem my OPA SI PASS voucher?

The voucher will be exchanged for the paper ticket at the official ticket office in the Cripta del Duomo (San Giovanni steps, to the side of the Cathedral). The counter staff will scan the voucher and issue the physical ticket, which will then grant access to all sites.

Important: The voucher must be redeemed on the day booked via GetYourGuide — it is not valid on a later date. The OPA SI PASS voucher is valid for three days from the date of redemption.

Is there a separate skip-the-line lane?

There is no separate fast-track queue at the main entrance to the cathedral. The advantage of the OPA SI PASS scheme is that it allows you to bypass the regular queue at the ticket office, as your ticket has already been reserved. If you arrive early in the morning or choose to visit in the late afternoon, you’ll find the entrance is at its quietest.

Do I need to print the voucher?

No. It's sufficient to present the voucher on your smartphone – either as a PDF from the confirmation email or via the GetYourGuide app. Printing it out is still possible if anyone feels more comfortable doing so.

Visit and experience

How long does the full visit take?

The official recommendation from the Opera della Metropolitana is around two hours for the entire itinerary. Those who want to take it all in at their leisure – especially the Piccolomini Library and the Museo dell’Opera – should perhaps allow for three to four hours. The three-day validity also allows for it to be spread over several visits.

Which languages does the audioguide support?

The audio guide runs via its own app on a smartphone and is available in multiple languages – Italian, English, French, Spanish and usually German too. Instructions for app installation will come with your booking confirmation. We recommend downloading the app via Wi-Fi before your visit, as reception inside the cathedral is limited.

When is the cathedral's marble floor fully visible?

In 2026, the famous inlaid marble floor will be fully visible during two periods: from 27 June to 31 July, and from 18 August to 15 November. During these weeks, a special entry price of €16 for adults will apply at the ticket office (online prices on GetYourGuide will be adjusted accordingly). The floor is considered one of Italy's most significant works of art – anyone who can arrange their visit during these weeks should do so.

Is the OPA SI PASS accessible?

The cathedral itself is accessible via a ramp on the left side of the building. The Museo dell’Opera, Crypt and Baptistery are not currently fully accessible — there are stairs without a lift here.

Wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility are best advised to contact the official tourist information office in advance, as they can offer individual solutions.
